- Graduate of Oberlin College with concentration in Psychology
- Instructor of B.E.S.T. Course at LCCW
- Certified in Bio Energetic Synchronization Technique
Dr. Pinkerton grew up in NJ. He attended Oberlin College, where he majored in Psychology. In his senior year, he became sick with infectious mononucleosis. He did not recover from the illness, but gradually became sicker and sicker. After six months of visits to his childhood doctors and various specialists with no cure in sight, no real relief, and no understanding being offered, Michael did his own research and determined that he had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFIDS). With his own determination and the help of a naturopath, homeopath, and chiropractor, he was able to recover from this debilitating illness within two months.
Quickly, he became very interested in alternative medicine, especially chiropractic and homeopathy. His chiropractor introduced him to a non-force form of chiropractic called Bio Energetic Synchronization (B.E.S.T.). He found that treatments helped him relax his body, cleared up aches and pains, and helped him recover from injuries much faster than he ever did on his own. In addition, he learned that his emotions were directly linked to his musculoskeletal system. Emotional problems translated directly into aches and pains. In fact, aches and pains which he clearly thought were physical, were often connected to an emotional state. He was consistently amazed at this!
After completing his bachelor's degree, he decided to become a chiropractor, and came to California to attend Life Chiropractic College West. While in school, he was President of the B.E.S.T. Club, and B.E.S.T. was the primary technique he used in his clinical work. He became licensed in the state of California in 2004. He has been an instructor at Life Chiropractic College West, where he teaches the B.E.S.T. elective, since 2007.
He has also studied the work of Wilhelm Reich (the developer of somatic psychotherapy), which has given him a deeper understanding of the emotional and historical significance in patterns of muscle tension. This understanding informs his work greatly.
In addition, he spent three years working with severely emotionally disturbed children, and continues to work with developmentally disabled adults. This work has helped him to understand family stresses, family dynamics, behavioral issues in children, and the aging process.
He is married and lives with his lovely wife.
